Unlike traditional membrane spacers that trap particles and biofilm within the spacer mesh, thereby obstructing flow, our innovative 3D-printed spacers can be optimized for maximum flux through the membrane element, minimizing the entrapment of particulates while enabling up to twice as much membranes surface within a spiral-wound module.

In an industry where membrane filtration has become commoditized and very little innovation has been introduced in the past 40 years, Aqua Membranes has developed a technology that can deliver more flow, lower fouling and lower overall system cost.

As the field data below demonstrates, 40” spiral-wound RO elements with printed spacers produce 30% more flow at the same or lower operating pressure.  This increase lowers total cost per gallon of water treated by:

  • Decreasing the CAPEX for water treatment plants by using fewer housings and skids for the needed volume of water
  • Allowing the expansion of existing water treatment facilities up to 30% which may require additional pre-treatment and pumping capacity.
  • System pressure drop can be dramatically lowered with custom printed spacers which reduces total energy consumption
